We both know how scary it can be to step on the starting line of a big race. What we didn’t know was just how terrifying it would be to write a book that reveals some of our personal insecurities, and exposes many of our faults and short comings. This was a completely new kind of scared for us!
When we started the RTE project, we wanted to write an honest and completely different kind of running book. Our primary goals from the beginning were to have fun and to share our passion for running with others. If we found success along the way, that would be great. If we found criticism, we were ready to accept that as well. Of course we have had a bit of both but for the most part we have been amazed and humbled by the reaction to our book.
In less than a year we have sold-out the first print run and have gone into a second and revised edition!
We are thankful beyond measure for all of the people who have made Running the Edge a success. The experience has been tremendously rewarding for both of us and we are looking forward to another amazing year!
What’s new?
The Cover: Although we loved the first cover with its rugged trail up Mt St. Helens, we didn’t think it captured the essence of the book. We wanted some movement and more color. Plus we just like change!
The introduction: After writing the book, and subsequently traveling and giving presentations about its message, we stumbled upon several new metaphors. One of them we decided was perfect for the introduction. We have replaced “The Secret Ingredient” section with a new section titled, “Runners and Icebergs” You can read the full new introduction by clicking here. To read just the new part click here.
Small edits and minor changes: The new metaphor from the introduction is woven throughout the book but does not alter much of the content. The heart of the book is essentially the same.

I noticed you would give a bulk rate discount to cross country coaches. I am not a coach but a Licensed Professional Counselor. As a rule, I give my clients a xmas present yearly. I would consider giving them your book. I believe it would be inspirational in their lives and would support the therapy I am providing. Would you consider giving me a discount rate? Keep up the good work. Thanks for your consideration in this matter.
